Further repercussions of M-Day include the introduction of a Superhuman Registration Act with implications that could parallel the decline of humanity in Rachel's timeline, along with the reemergence of Gabriel Summers, Rachel’s unknown uncle. Awakened by a portion of the energy expelled by depowered mutants, Gabriel descends to Earth to find those responsible for abandoning him on an orbiting Earth fragment. Gabriel captures Rachel and Scott and uses them to lure Xavier into a confrontation to expose the secret group of X-Men that Gabriel joined as Vulcan, as well the corrupt undertakings of Professor Xavier and the Shi’ar. Rachel weakens Vulcan by releasing his teammate Darwin from his control, but Vulcan escapes to enact his vengeance on the Shi’ar. With O*N*E*'s continued occupation of the X-Mansion and a possible civil war among Earth's superpowered beings, Rachel promptly accepts Professor Xavier’s invitation to join his team in pursuit of Vulcan. Along the way, the team confronts a rogue Shi’ar named Korvus Rook’shir who is the final descendant of an avatar of the Phoenix. Rachel absorbs a fragment of the Phoenix from Korvus’ weapon and Rachel consequently develops a connection to Korvus who’s tortured past parallels her own. By the time Rachel and the X-Men engage Vulcan, the Shi’ar Empire is bifurcated, Vulcan and Deathbird have proclaimed themselves rulers of the Shi’ar Imperium and are set on executing all that oppose them including Lilandra and Emperor D’Ken. The ensuing battle culminates with the deaths of D’Ken and Corsair, half the X-Men returning to Earth, and the new Emperor and his supporters retreating, as Rachel, Polaris and Havok remain to mourn Christopher Summers. Rachel joins her uncle Alex, the new leader of the Starjammers, along with Lilandra and her rebels, to continue the campaign against Vulcan. After a prolonged conflict between the Lilandra’s resistance movement and Emperor Vulcan’s rule, Rachel and the Starjammers must align themselves with Vulcan and his Imperial Guard in order to combat a universal threat in the Scy’Ar Tal. Consequently, Rachel must stay her vendetta against the Chancellor of The Shi’ar’s secret order and the commandos that murdered her family in order to maintain the alliance. Thus, in order to protect the M’Kraan Crystal, a nexus of all realities, The Starjammers help Vulcan defeat the world destroying Scy’Ar Tal. As expected, Emperor Vulcan quickly dissolves the alliance and after an uneven battle, the Starjammers are defeated, except for Rachel and Korvus who rendezvous with an exiled Lilandra. The Shi’ar are unified again after the destruction of the Scy’Ar Tal under the rule of Vulcan. |
